Engineering and Marine Services Ltd was formed in 2012. Located in the North East of England, EMS primarily work within the oil and gas, subsea and renewable energy sectors, providing project, manufacturing and production management.

At EMS our comprehensive understanding of the engineering process allows us to be the ‘engineering link’ between design and product delivery. Here at EMS our team understand the importance of delivering on spec and in time.

EMS offer and supply services in manufacturing and machining in all areas of fabrication including pipework, pressure vessels, cladding, structural and architectural steel, working in a range of materials from low carbon steel, AISI 4130, stainless steel, duplex, super duplex, inconel alloys and aluminium.

Core Business

Management

Since its creation EMS has managed and completed a number of contracts for some of the industry’s most prestigious companies, providing full project management at a number of locations across the North East.

EMS directors, Charlie Tindall and James Ogle, have led numerous engineering projects throughout their careers, both in the UK and worldwide. Successfully executing large scale projects within the oil & gas industry by managing labour and sub-assembly, testing & commissioning stages for some of the industry’s leading companies.

Manufacturing

By utilising its established and wide-ranging supply base EMS can offer fabrication in a variety of materials from structural steel to exotic materials.

EMS have delivered a number of manufacturing contracts from bespoke items to batches of components for the engineering industry.
Each contract is complemented with a full documentation package containing material traceability, inspection reports and associated certification to our client’s requirements.

Welding Procedure Qualification

All EMS WPQR’s are qualified to ISO 15614-1 as a minimum. We tailor our qualifications to meet our clients’ requirements and we can also qualify procedures to the below standards if required.

  • ASME IX
  • AWS D1.1
  • EEMUA 158

EMS currently have over 70 qualified welding procedures which are all 3rd party witnessed and approved by Lloyd’s Register.

Production

At EMS we have the capability of performing a full range of production activities at various locations across the North East of England. Depending on the type and size of the contract we can utilise our own facility or carry out the work within client’s premises/site.

Mechanical Assembly

On completion of the coating system, components are delivered back to the relevant build facility where the final assembly can commence with confidence.

EMS produce detailed build records during the assembly phase. Ensuring that that each component has been completed as per their issued drawings.

Key Roles:

  • creation and approval of risk assessments and method statements
  • planning and progress reporting as per customers’ requirements
  • create and issue build records
  • builds are successfully carried out to clients satisfaction
  • packaging and shipping

Black Builds/Trial Fits

During the handover from manufacture to production, our engineers work together to ensure that, where practical, all components are trial fitted to their mating parts reducing potential issues and allowing rectification before items are sent for final coating.

Common checks:

  • alignment of critical bores
  • rotating parts checking for potential clashes
  • thread inspection
  • ease of access for final assembly against design
  • clearances checked against drawings
  • running hydraulic and electrical lines to determine lengths and support brackets
  • load testing so NDT of welds can be performed before coating

Refurbishment

If equipment requires modification or component replacement, EMS can utilise their facility at the Port of Middlesborough offshore base. The site accommodates vessel berthing and has excellent road links.

If this is not cost effective or the particular equipment is too large to be transported, EMS can mobilise on-site with temporary, fully equipped 20ft workshop and stores containers and offices offering the client a ‘one stop shop’ for the refurbishment process.

  • strip down of factory machinery and deck/subsea equipment
  • change out and replace any damaged/worn components
  • seized component removal via lancing or site machining
  • fabrication modification to clients specifications
  • re-certification of lifting points
  • refurbish hydraulic components
  • supply and installation of new parts
  • relevant documentation package

Equipment Testing & Commissioning

Following successful completion of the assembly phase, EMS will co-ordinate and carry out testing & commissioning to our clients specifications if required.

Key Roles:

  • Creation of detailed risk assessments
  • Work with the client to create a safe and effective way of doing FAT’s and SAT’s
  • Liaise with third party bodies such as LRS/DNV
  • Co-ordinate tests

Pressure Testing

EMS can carry out varying pressure testing scenarios.

Key Roles:

  • Supply required testing equipment
  • Provide various ways of monitoring and recording data
  • Liaise with third party bodies such as LRS/DNV
  • Compile and display documentation as per customer requirements
  • Destructive testing, disassembly and investigation

Quality

EMS have a certified Quality Management System (QMS) to ISO 9001:2015 which ensures that all contracts and projects are managed effectively and to our client’s expectations. Projects are regularly conducted in accordance with international standards and certified by recognised third party bodies such as DNV and Lloyds Register.
