Case Study

The Birdcage is a test rig assembly which will be utilised by GE Oil & Gas to test new development pipelines. The assembly consisted of two cradles (1 Fixed and 1 Dynamic), one located at either end of the assembly. The cradles were a copy of each other with only secondary steel separating the two. The fixed cradle was pinned to the base frame via four clevises, the dynamic cradle was installed to the base frame via four bogies which each consisted of two rollers. The dynamic cradle was free to move along the rails unless the parking pins were installed to ensure the dynamic cradle also became fixed, the parking cylinders which were connected to the parking pins allows a load to be applied to the test pipe.

Engineering and Marine Services Ltd supported OP from approval of drawings right through to installation which took place at GE Oil & Gas workshop facility in Walker (Newcastle Upon-Tyne)

• expedite fabrications as per approved purchase orders
• carry out black build on critical components/assemblies
• assemble Birdcage as per approved assembly drawings
• measure and install hydraulic hoses
• support Osbit Power throughout testing phase
• final Installation of system within clients workshop
