Case Study
C105 Offshore Platform Supply and Installation.
EMS started by providing support in the fabrication stages, checking that components would arrive at the correct time, carrying out visual inspection and witnessing dimensional checks.
Whilst the platforms where being manufacture EMS fabricated a test stand so a full load test could be carried out prior to paint. The stand also replicated the height and mounting points of the crane allowing a mock-up of the installation. The assembly had a retractable aluminium ladder that required load testing to BS EN 131-2. EMS manufactured jigs/ frames and used calibrated equipment and photos to complete the test document. The document was signed off remotely by the customer as sufficient proof of successful testing was obtained.
The parts where received from the fabricator “black” so that EMS could assemble, fit to the test stand and then load test pre NDT. Ten separate tests were carried out on each platform and completed in one day allowing the parts to be shipped to the painters, keeping to the tight schedule.
EMS received the components back from the painters and the first platform was assembled, fitted to the test stand and the second assembled on trestles ready for the customer FAT with in the timescale.
EMS worked closely with a design house to bring together methods and a sequence that the platforms could be safely assembled to the offshore cranes at height. An aluminium davit crane (able to assemble onsite by hand) was constructed and tested that attached to the cranes original lift points, this allowed parts to be lifted without external aids being brought onsite. Two technicians where provided to install the platforms onsite, the work was completed safely and on time.
